I am a not so old friend of Armand H Charpentier aka LURCH, I just wanted to say I am glad to see the old boy is still around. We are all the better for soldiers like him and the countless others who have sweat, blead, and gave the ultimate sacrifice. So I say to you all WE SHALL NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU HAVE ALL DONE. My flag flies proudly over my home 24-7 365 days in your memories. And in my fathers memory Semper Fi. Michael Mack

I was a avionics tech in B, 15th TC and was also one of three guys in the Cav trained on the Decca Navigator system. Visited you in Feb or March '67 to replace the Decca computer (the write-up was that the pen went around in a circle about three times then ran off the edge!) This happened on fire mission and I guess the dive speed was greater than the poor little 8 bit counter card could keep up with! Great respect for you guys! - SP4 Russ Haigh (B, 15th TC, Nov 66 to Nov 67. Birth Control Photo

I WAS THE DUSTOFF A/C ON CALL FOR THE OPERATION ON THE MIHN THAHN ROAD WHEN THE 1/4 HORSE CAV WAS AMBUSHED BY NVA RGMT. AS I WAS PROCEEDING TO THE AREA GUNS A GO-GO TOLD ME TO STAND BY AND HE WOULD SECURE THE AREA FOR ME. I MADE A 360 AND AS I ROLLED OUT TO THE LZ THE 1/4 HORSE CODR. CAPT SLATTERY TOLD ME THAT GUNS A GO- GO HAD BEEN SHOT DOWN WHICH WAS IN FACT TRUE. THE CO-PILOT WAS THE ONLY ONE WOUNDED AND I HAVE CORRESPONDED WITH HIM AND HAVE SEVERAL PICTURES OF THE DOWNED BIRD TAKEN AFTER THE BATTLE WAS OVER. SO I GUESS THEY DIDN'T DESTROY EVERY TARGET THEY ENGAGED, BUT THEY SURE LOOKED COOL.JUST THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE TO KNOW.

I saw these birds in action, once, in the Ia Drang area(Nov/Dec 66?), while riding in the first bird on a Combat Assault. For those who do not know, it was very loud in an HU1D when coming into an LZ on a C.A. . The roar these gunships made was far louder as two passed us firing into the LZ ahead, timing perfectly just as the the 105 mm artillery had ended its mission. The LZ erupted in awhirl of flying debris from the 40mm HE, the 20mm cannon and the rockets exploding in the trees. Then the four fifty caliber Machine guns on the two gunships opened up, with the inner pairs crossfiring into the LZ, the outer ons down-forward and back and, and the 50's out the ramps continued firing down the sides of the LZ as we landed. The single best CA I ever went on of the more than 120 I made. Thank you all. To this day, the only thing I have ever seen to compare was a B-52 strike from a distance of one mile. Yours, WJK

You guys were coming home to Benning (to the 177th) shortly
before I shipped out to the 179th at Camp Holloway, Pleiku.

One day I remember one of your birds (Easy Money, I believe) stopped
by to refuel and as I was walking around looking at her I ran into one
of her crew and an old friend of mine from the "hook" school at Eustis,
Dave Giles. Impressive aircraft, impressive crew.

It was my pleasure to meet some of these guys when they came
to Washington, D.C., five years ago for the 20th anniversary
of the Viet Nam Memorial, the Wall.

I am a freelance writer and had the pleasure of interviewing and
videotaping the interview with these valiant men. My best wishes and
regards go out to "Dick" O'connor, Dave, and Danny of the Guns-a-Gogo.

Sitting in the same room with these men was an honor for me, as is

Greetings,
My father, SSG Claude Suggs (aka #10) was the Commo NCO for 228th
ASHB at An Khe. He has about three dozen photos of "Guns" and the
base at An Khe including the swimming hole, Red Dog Saloon, the memorial
service for the crew of "Cost of Living," and some others.

Up until a few years ago I still had one of the original GAGG patches.

I found your site just out of curiosity yesterday and told my father last
night about this. He was very happy and said he will take a look at it.

I just read where SOAR is bringing GAGG back. Remarkable since I was selected
for assignment to be their Regimental Fire Support Officer in the early '90s.

My Father LTC, Lee P Biggs, Jr. was the commander of Guns-A-Go-Go, but I'm
not sure of the dates. he sent me the unit patch when he was in Vietnam, and I
still wear it on an old style flight jacket proudly and you wouldn't believe the
number of people that ask about it. I'm very happy I found this site it is a great
tribute to all the men of Guns-A-Go-Go. Job well done!

Thank you

Gentleman, Not a day goes by that I don't have the privilege of seeing your old war bird.
Everyday that I pass her, on my way to and from work; she stands proudly to remind all of us that
there was once life in this old gal’. I can only hope that as my time passes and I hand the torch

Finally broke down and spent some "change" on the 1/48 ACH-47 model kit and decided to
start getting some reference material to do it "right". Having some neck problems so will
probably be home a few months and might build an early "Easy Money". Still haven't
framed the prints I got from Frank yet. Would look good with the finishd model. Great Site!

Those "Hooks" were sweet sounds coming over the hill and even sweeter while "working out". Real "Pee Bringers". The Pathfinders loved you guys, as I'm sure Juan Gonzales has told you. I returned with Juan to Vietnam in Jan. 03, and will always consider him my brother. We went through too much together not to stick with each now. Guys, both of us are still here much to the credit of "Guns-a-go-go, and other gunships of The First Air Cav. What a great outfit!!! Garry Owen. "Night Jumper 6 Mike"

I am looking foreward to maintaining my friendship with the "GOGO" community. Once again thank you for the cover you gave us on July 19th, 1966. Incidently this past April I received a copy of a letter written Nov. 18, 1966 by then battalion clerk Dan Quirk (who was a friend of Doug's) to Doug Knott's (KIA the 19th) mother, in response to her desire to find out what happend that day. In the letter he stated that close to 200 VC bodies were uncovered in graves near the battle area within weeks of the engagement. There were at least 600 rounds of heavy arty fired plus 38 air strikes. This letter put the battle in a different light in my mind. Mike Moschkin A1/27th Inf. (Wolfhounds)

Frank responsed:

Hello Cat, In the Guestbook you wrote: "You really need to provide the actual TYPES of aircrafts they are...not just the silly little names you give them. I needed some pictures of Viet Nam helicopters along with the TYPE of helicopter it is. I"m lacking this information." First of all, the "Type" aircraft represented on my website is the Boeing/Vertol ACH-47A Chinook Gunship, the name actually appears 124 times throughout the website. Secondly, there is a photo album in my Directory called: "Aviation History" (look down the left hand side of the screen for the link), which contains nearly every aircraft in the Army inventory. If you come across one that is not ID'd, I will be happy to supply you with that information. The material you seek is almost certainly located on my website, someplace, or at least there exist links to other sites that are more devoted to a particular type of aircraft. I will be more than happy to assist you in any way I can, just ask. Frank (Webmaster)

Comments: I tanked in Nam in the Marines, and then did AirCav work in the Army in Nam. I have to say I've never seen a more impressive weapons platform as these ACHs. Besides a lot of work, it must have been a thrill to crew one of these "Birds".

Comments: Sierra Hotel Frank. I was USAF assigned to HHC 3bde, 1st Cav, Quan Loi and then 2nd Bdg at Phuoc Vinh. We operated the OV-10s and cheerfully provided all of the TAC Air you could wish for. Cheers and Beers
